Great news. After months of laboring over loads and loads of material, we've finally nailed down our Winter Holiday Schedule for the Lazy Eye Puppet Theater. And this year promises to be our best ever!
I'm pleased to announce some brand new shows that we will be doing and for the first time ever, we will be performing late night puppet theater FOR ADULTS ONLY.
Saturday December 8th and Sunday December 9th
The Christmas Carol Finger Puppet Show at 1, 3 and 5 o'clock
The Lazy Eye hand puppets perform Flesh Gordon at 10 p.m. and midnight. ADULTS ONLY and B.Y.O.B.
Saturday December 15th and Sunday December 16th
It's A Wonderful Life With Strings Attached as performed by the Lazy Eye Marionettes at 1, 3 and 5 o'clock.
The Lazy Eye Rod Puppets perform The Joy Of Sex at 10 p.m. and midnight. ADULTS ONLY and LADIES GET HALF OFF ADMISSION.
Saturday December 22nd and Sunday December 23rd
The Nutcracker as performed by the Lazy Eye Shadow Puppets at 1,3 and 5 o'clock.
The Lazy Eye Pop-Up Puppets perform The Devil and Miss Jones at 10 p.m. and midnight. ADULTS ONLY and STAY FOR THE KEY PARTY AFTER THE SHOW.
Price of admission is $10 for Adults and $6 for Kids. Please don't bring children under 4 because they are likely to go up on stage and touch the puppets and that will disrupt our performance. Tickets go on sale one hour before each show.
BRING IN A HANDMADE PUPPET AND RECEIVE HALF OFF YOUR TICKET!
Don't Forget To Support Live Puppet Theater!
I can imagine that the Harry Reems puppet is quite impressive.
ReplyDeleteHello, I am Socky the Sock Puppet.
ReplyDeleteI find your adult puppet schedule offensive. Puppets do not perform in such programs.
You will be reported to the proper puppet authorities. As a member of Puppet Performers Local 487, I plan on bringing this up with our membership and we will be picketing the late night performances, if they are not cancelled.
While I enjoy your standard shows, and am a longtime member of the Lazy Eye Puppet Theater community (you may remember I played the Captain in the Puppet Production of the 2003 H.M.S. Pinafore), this new direction is a travesty to all things puppet related.
Puppet Power!!!
All joking aside.
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember the "kids on the block" educational puppets in grade school? Just curious. Those are some powerful puppets.

Socky,
ReplyDeleteOf course we remember you, and your performance as The Captain was simply amazing.
Know that we spoke to several Puppet Performer Heads and let them know of our more adult themed shows and while we were greeted with some hesitation, most welcomed the idea of pushing the puppet envelope, so to say.
I'm sorry you're offended, but I hope this won't stop you from attending some of our more family themed shows.
And Socky, I hope this rant isn't because you didn't make call-backs for any of our winter shows.
With all offense intended toward Socky, I'm guessing that it's not all that difficult to make "call backs" for the winter shows, Piper, so you've probably avoided any performance problems by not casting this has-been again. I say good riddance. Maybe he can get a job as Kenicki's understudy at the dinner theater production of Grease at the Mentor, Ohio, Swabbie's Ahoy! restaurant (Tuesday "crab" leg early bird special - only $7.99 from 4 - 4:45 pm!).
ReplyDeleteSocky,
ReplyDeleteYou may remember me. This is Bernadette. I played Buttercup in that production of Pinafore.
I had the misfortune to audition for one of these new productions. I thought it was just going to be a standard production.
I was wrong.
You will hear more in the upcoming court case, but the director was extremely inappropriate during the audition process. He didn’t even use a puppeteer courtesy glove that we fought so hard in the last contract negotiations. Finally, he told me they weren’t going to go with sock puppets this time around and threw me out of his office.
When it was all over, I felt cheap, and violated, and I cried for days.
So, I will stand with you to fight the Lazy Eye Puppet Theater. They must be exposed for what they really are.
Dear Mr. Piper,
ReplyDeleteAs a concerned member of PMS (Puppet Mother's Society) I have to inform you that if you proceed with your 'late night' schedule as planned, we shall be forced to take preventive measures.
You have been warned.
I worked with both Socky and Bernadette in Pinafore, playing Dick Deadeye.
ReplyDeleteIt is ironic that Socky and Bernadette are offended by the show. Weren't these two trying to shop around a tape they made together a few years ago? Shot on their honeymoon? They claimed it was stolen from their home by a construction worker? The late night plays are far more tasteful.
The TRUTH is they were not given roles. It is as simple as that.
Bernadette was a fine actress but, have you seen her lately? She has had way too much darning. I think all of her paycheck goes right to the seamstress.
The Lazy Eye Puppet Theater is one of the finest puppet theaters in the country. Don't let these two fool you.
And this is one of the finest websites I have seen. I wish you the best with it.
Bernadette,
ReplyDeleteI'm quite sure that you're in violation of the court ruling by stating your case here. But since we're airing out our dirty puppet stories here, it should be known that Bernadette liked the glitter a bit too much. She would ask me again and again to cover her in glue, sprinkle glitter all over her and then shake her repeatedly. It got to be a real problem so we had to let her go.
Sorry Bernadette, I thought we could keep all this behind the court doors, but you brought it up.
During college, I spent a summer as a puppet fluffer. With god as my witness, I gained first hand knowledge of the level of perversion a puppet can master. I feel no pity for Socky, Bernadette and "Dick Deadeye." Ha, I say. In fact I worked with you Dick. Your eye wasn't the only thing that was dead.
ReplyDeleteIs Socky one of the guys who made appearances on the appendages of various Red Hot Chili Peppers? If so, I rather suspect this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
