Everyone has their favorite holiday movies. Movies and cartoons that have to be seen for the entire experience to be complete. I always have a long list of stuff I would love to sit down and watch, but rarely have the time. But there are a few that I have to see no matter what.
1. White Christmas Why I want to retire in Vermont and open a ski lodge even though I absolutely hate skiing.
2. It's A Wonderful Life This movie is just the right kind of sweet without being overpowering.
3. A Charlie Brown Christmas We get a Charlie Brown tree every year in honor of this movie.
4. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas Not to be mistaken with the abomination that is The Grinch.
5. A Christmas Story TNT has almost killed this movie for me with their marathon. At first it seemed fun, but now the movie just doesn't seem as special.
What are yours?
* A Christmas Story (I still like it)
ReplyDelete* Elf
* Bad Santa
* National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
* Gremlins
(Cynical? Oh, a tad.)
1. A Christmas Story and I'll fight any man who says otherwise.
ReplyDelete2. Home Alone - not really my favorite, but it has its charm.
3. Scrooged - "Lee, this is one Santa who's going out the front door."
4. Great Expectations - for some reason, the 1946 version of this always used to be on late at night on Christmas Eve when I was a kid.
5. The Madagascar Penguins in: A Christmas Caper - not exactly a movie, but on balance more enjoyable than Madagascar.
I LOVE seeing the A Christmas Story marathon - it rewards sitting down for 10-15 minutes throughout the day and rewatching different parts of the movie. That's how It's a Wonderful Life used to be before NBC highjacked it for its once-a-year viewing.
The Christmas Story and Its a Wonderful Life are at the top. What about Jingle All the Way with the Terminator?
ReplyDeleteI've been working on my list, and will post it later in the week.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Wonderfull Life
ReplyDeleteChristmas Story
Home For The Holidays
Elf
It's a Wondefull Life
I know It's a WWonderfull Life is listed twice. It's that good.

ReplyDeleteElf
IAWL (Hollywood acronym for Its a Wonderful life)
Christmas Story
Die Hard
I love all of your selections, but I would add:
ReplyDeleteThe Bishop's Wife
The Bell's of St. Mary's
I don't know if The Bell's of St Mary's has any Christmas theme in it, to be honest - but it's always on at that time of year and totally warms the heart. Going My Way is another classic I watch at the holidays as well.
Garrett,
ReplyDeleteGood call on Die Hard.
Shannon,
A Christmas movie is whatever makes you feel good for the holiday. So it doesn't even need to really be about Christmas.
