Same here. Where else can I get my Klosterman fix? (the fact that they still put women on the cover and inside, unlike some other "men's" magazine - coughDetailscough) - doesn't hurt, either). I love Esquire.
I'm a simple man. I never watched whatever that show Jessica Simpson was in so I don't know her to be a complete idiot. But to me she's beautiful. And maybe, just maybe it's the breasts.
I won't speak to the trend in general, but c'mon, Esquire is celebrating their 75th anniversary. I think they have free reign to do whatever the hell they want with their old covers.
They still print Esquire? Who knew?
ReplyDeleteOf course. I get it every month. Still a great publication.

ReplyDeleteI get the transvestite reference, but where's the beautiful woman?

Steve,

I'm w/ anon, never saw Jessica Simpson as all that hot.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame she has to start shaving at such a young age. Guess that's price to pay for long term Proactive use!
The original Verna Lisi shot for Esquire was sexy.
ReplyDeleteThe recent Jessica Simpson shot is just disturbing.
(and from a photography and layout standpoint, the original is much, much better)
More disturbing is the trend to recreate famous photographs of beautiful and iconic actresses by using beat down, hackneyed "stars".
Where did originality and creativity go in this country?
I blame David Hasselhoff and Red Bull.

ReplyDeleteAnd if free reign is to suck them up with the likes of Ms. Simpson, then so be it I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThere's homage and there is sacrilege. Large, bountiful breasts aside, this, to me, leans to the latter.
I will say that Jessica Simpson is no Verna Lisi and it does speak to the state of things in entertainment.
ReplyDeleteThis is the mag cover design equivalent to movie remakes. Yawn inducing at best, and scary bad at it's worst. This would go under category B.
