Kate Hudson does it her way.

I like Kate Hudson. (This extends well beyond her acting chops, but that’s another post.) She has this fame and fortune thing figured out. She spends three months on set filming duds like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” or “ Fool’s Gold” or “You, Me and Dupree” and then she counts her money on the beach in Hawaii with one of her many boyfriends (Pick a name, any name.)

Steven Soderbergh is kind of like that. He makes Oceans 11, 12, 13 to make money and in between he makes more complex films like "Traffic" and "Che" or experimental films like “Full Frontal,” “Solaris” and “Bubble.” Yeah, Soderbergh and Hudson are kind of the same except she goes to the beach between goofy films and he continues to hone his craft.

Sometimes I wish Kate would recommit to acting. Sometimes I wish she would reach a little deeper to find the glimmer of talent that I saw in “Almost Famous.” But then again, there are waves to be caught and pictures to be taken.

  1. She's pretty, but you and I have talked about her in Almost Famous and I'm not a big fan. Too much waving the hands about like she's some kind of mystical magician.

She got the looks, I just don't know if she's got the chops.

But if she's happy, more power to her.

  2. I believe Brian used the term "glimmer of talent" in his post. That's hardly an endorsement.

  3. On a gossip forum I go to, plenty of people have been making the same complaint about Jennifer Aniston. She's older of course, but she's also doing the light fare and hasn't stretched her ability since "The Good Girl".

The more I thought about it, the more I decided that if I looked like Aniston or Hudson and was being offered millions for light romcoms with several months downtime between each project, I might just do it, too.

  4. Her looks are average. Her work is below average. D+ If her mama weren't Goldie, nobody would have given her a second look.

Jennifer would have been smart to stick to the small screen. Of course, I don't pretend to understand some of her decisions --ahem--dating John Mayer, who to me looks a bit like Herman Munster.... what? ~gasp~ Did I type that out loud?!

Thank God I'm perfect so I can publically criticize the likes of them...

  5. One last thought before I leave Hudson happily behind...this one for Brian, who thought enough of the bikini-clad pic of Hudson to share it with us all.

I don't mean to criticize anyone's personal taste in women, but really...have you seen the SI swimsuit edition? No comparison, Dude.

I don't keep up with SI swimsuit issue.

Please send me a copy so I can compare with Hudson.
