Robert Rodriguez, You Son Of A Bitch

You owe me $15. Actually, you owe me about $30.

Let me splain.

First, you were born. And then you grew up and you went to school, you went through puberty, you kissed girls and all kinds of stuff. Then you decided you were going to be a director. And not just any director. A maverick. Someone who did it "his" way. And in doing it your way, you broke some rules. Like co-directing Sin City with Frank Miller. And in doing so, you let Frank Miller think he was a director. So he went on to direct The Spirit. And I bought two tickets to it. And some popcorn and a couple of sodas. And then 30 minutes in, I walked out of it. I ran, actually.

So you owe me. And when I see you, I'm collecting.

  1. What was so bad about The Spirit? I enjoyed it. It was a bit sillier than I expected but I enjoyed it.
And you missed Samuel L. Jackson dressed as a Nazi. Probably my favorite part.

  2. I was okay with the silliness. But you could tell Miller was new to this in how he told the story. All medium shots that droned on and on. He relied in the style of the look too much. He needed to edit himself. Just as there should be no literal translation from the book to screen, there should be no literal translation from the comic book to screen.

  3. Piper, you're the second person I've heard from that said this was batshit awful.

I feel smarter by the day. :)

  6. Not to make you even angrier, but there were whispers that Rodriguez may have had a fling with Kat Dennings while shooting his last movie. It's totally only rumor, and I don't want to think that it actually happened, but if it ever comes out that it DID, well, that should be more reason for you to be pissed off! ... or at least be pissed of for me!

  8. Ha! A friend of mine had gift passes to the cinema, which I utilized to see this film. I must say I got my money's worth (unless your calculations allow for negative dollar worth...)

By the way, I have linked up to your great Rudy post on my year-end round-up of favorite posts. You can check it out here:

  9. Fox,

Kat's a whore. It seems that Rodriguez ditches his wife and now he's swinging with everyone. I'm so pissed I could eat fried chicken. And I hate fried chicken.

    MovieMan,

Even if it was free, you should still demand money back. Figure out how much a couple of hours are worth to you and then get that money back.

Many thanks on the link. I'll check it out. I've been meaning to link up to your blog.

    Thanks
