Top 5 Tuesdays (T5T) Thinks It's Kinda Looking Somewhat Like Christmas

There are the traditional holiday movies. White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, Frosty the Snowman, etc. And then there are the non-traditional, traditional holiday movies. Movies that for some reason or another remind you of the holidays. They may take place during the holidays (Lethal Weapon) or they may have traditionally been released during the holidays (Lord of the Rings).

So this Tuesday, give me your Top 5 holiday movies that aren't quite exactly considered holiday movies, but for you it wouldn't be the holidays without them.

1. Wonder Boys

2. Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang

3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy

4. War of the Roses

5. The Man Who Came to Dinner

I just got an early present - my governor (Rod Blagojevich, IL) was FINALLY indicted by the feds and will probably be impeached before dinnertime.

I just have to spread the joy at this most wonderful time of the year.

For me, no Christmas season is complete without a viewing of "Die Hard."

Doh, how did I forget Gremlins? I *just* taped it to get in the holiday spirit!

There is also of course, The Ref.

Little know fact: Lazy Eye is a mouthpiece for Marilyn's political views. She will be announcing her candidacy right here next week.

You gotta explain the Blue Velvet story.

I had no idea.

I don't have five, but I have two:

The Apartment

The House of Mirth (the latter because I first saw on the day after Christmas and went back to see it again two days later, both times driving through though light, lovely post-holiday snow. And the snow is as much of a part of my memory of "House of Mirth" as the film itself.)

What a cool idea, Piper. Here's my list.

1. Pocketful of Miracles (I watch it every year without fail)

2. LOTR Trilogy (I'm actually deep in the middle of it now and just finished Two Towers.)

3. Love, Actually

4. Batman Returns

5. This isn't a movie, but The Gentlemen episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I watched it one year while wrapping gifts and it's become something of a tradition.

I watch Eyes Wide Shut every Christmas Eve, usually alone, usually with a glass of Maker's Mark and egg nog. Ronin was my first DVD that, got it on Christmas '99, so it always brings back memories.

1. Eyes Wide Shut
2. Gremlins
3. Die Hard
4. Home Alone
5. Ronin

I'm with you on Batman Begins. I always have a hankering to see that this time of year.

Damn Adam,

Eyes Wide Shut is a fine, fine choice. Seriously, you watch it alone?

Adam Ross said...

I watch it alone because my wife hates it and she's already heard me go on about all the Christmas references in it.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Many ones I would come up with have been stated already. Die Hard...Home Alone (though doesn't it count as a holiday movie? Even the 2nd was set around Xmas-time, if I recall correctly). I'dd add the Harry Potter flix as well. I hate the summer release dates - I love the snow around the school. All HP movies should be released around Thanksgiving.

This reminds me..I did the same kinda thing awhile back for Halloween. Karate Kid!
