Top 5 Tuesdays (T5T) Loves The Living Dead
In honor of its upcoming release, give me your Top 5 zombie movies. Here are mine in no particular order.
2. Night of the Creeps "What I'm going to need is your standard flame thrower. "
3. Shaun of the Dead "Just look at the face: it's vacant, with a hint of sadness. Like a drunk who's lost a bet."
4. Evil Dead II "Then let's head on down into that cellar and carve ourselves a witch."
5. Return of the Living Dead "See? You made me hurt myself again! I broke my hand off completely at the wrist this time, Tina! But that's okay, Darlin', because I love you, and that's why you have to let me EAT YOUR BRAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIINS!"

Are the characters in Resident Evil 5 as pretty as Milla Jovavich?
You gotta be kidding me. No one has Night of the Comet ? I'm furious.
Oh so much joy. I love zombies more than your average person, so hooray!
Dawn of the Dead for sure.
Shaun of the Dead for sure.

Dreamrot,
Is Flight of the Living Dead really that good? I saw it on a couple of lists and wondered.
Fox,
What's Deathdream? Never heard of it.
Birdflu,
Damn. Night of the Comet is beautiful. I can't believe I missed it either.
Emily,
Leaving room for World War Z. It's bold. I love it.
Night of the Living Dorks
Resident Evil
Shaun of the Dead
Re-Animator
Night of the Living Dead
Three comedies...
Flight of the Living Dead is better than it has any real right to be. It's a lot of fun. It's kind of cheesy but very enjoyable.
Is it GOOD though? I guess that depends on what you would call good. It's a helluva lot of fun.
That's my favorite quote from Return of the Living Dead. And Night of the Creeps? Oh, Piper. You win.
Marilyn,
There's really a Night of the Living Dorks?
Dreamrot,
With a title like Flight of the Living Dead, I expect it to be good in a fun way. I'll have to check it out.
Caitlin,
I think I saw something on your blog about Night of the Creeps and that triggered it all for me. Didn't you write about it sometime?
Yes indeed, Piper. I own the DVD and saw it at a film festival a few years ago with the German director in attendance. It came out the same year as Shaun, and it seems Americans only needed one foreign zombie film that year, according to the distributors.
I'll review it soon.
Sweet, I'll have to check it out.
Thanks for the heads up Marilyn.
Yes, I did. I believe I lamented the fact that neither Night of the Creeps nor that immortal classic Cool As Ice are on DVD.
I only ever saw at once at 3:00 a.m. on TV but it made a huge impression.
Fido - not a great one, but wholly original.
Night of the Living Dead (original) cuz it still works as intended.
28 Days Later -- reinvents genre and makes it better
Rockin' choices for T5T!
Fave zombie flicks:
5. Fido
4. Mulberry Street
3. [REC]
2. 28 Days Later
1. Night of the Living Dead
I really need to see Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Creeps though .. they are on my to see (and soon!) list.
Toto and Shannon,
Glad you gave some love to Fido. Not a great film, but an interesting idea.
Caitlin, you can't put Night of the Creeps in the same category with Cool as Ice. Is that the Vanilla Ice movie?
Shannon,
What's Mulberry Street?
I saw Mulberry Street at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival in 2007, looks like it got to a lot of the creepy-er festivals:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473514/
It's got a neighbourhood/character charm but still set in NY feel and it's a bit of a play on the zombies. Quite impressive for an indie film.
It's available on amazon.com and.ca
It is the Vanilla Ice movie! I just want to see them both again, albeit for different reasons. (True story: I nearly had to be given the Heimlich maneuver after watching Cool as Ice for the first time because I am... so awesome.)
