Top 10 Tuesdays (T10T) Honors Counting Down The Zeroes

Ibetolis at Film For The Soul has been rather busy lately. Not only is he pulling duty at his regular blog, but he's also started up a side project called Counting Down the Zeroes, where he is chronicling a decade worth of films from 2000 on up. Several guest bloggers are reviewing films from every year, and I'm honored to say that I will be writing my own review of The Royal Tenenbaums for 2001. Look for it soon.

As part of the project, Ibetolis recently asked a bunch of us to give him our Top 10 of the year 2000. I was going to write that this wasn't a great year for films, but I would be wrong in doing so. Old Y2K produced several fantastic films that not only make this list, but would be on a list of my all time favorites. So this Tuesday, give me your Top 10 of 2000. And please, for the love of God, visit this wonderful project that Ibetolis has poured his soul into.

Here are mine in no particular order.

1. High Fidelity

2. Unbreakable

3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

4. Wonder Boys

5. Traffic

6. O Brother, Where Art Thou

7. Battle Royale

8. Virgin Suicides

9. Meet The Parents

10. State and Main

From the post title, I thought it was going to be movies with time bombs in them. Tick, tick, tick...

But this sounds cool, too.

Megan,

Um... so... Megan.

Are you going to participate?

Foolishblatherings,

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I hope I can find some time to participate in Ibetolis' project - I really wanted to tackle "Songs From The Second Floor" for the year 2000, but just couldn't get to it. Maybe I'll get around to doing "Pulse" for 2001.

Anyway, here's my Top 25 for 2000 (pretty much in order, but not much separating many of them - so I can't pare it down any further man!):

Almost Famous
O Brother Where Art Thou
Battle Royale
Dancer In The Dark
High Fidelity
Songs From The Second Floor
Requiem For A Dream
Ginger Snaps
Sexy Beast
Revelations: Paradise Lost 2
Calle 54
Versus
Uzumaki
Happy Accidents
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Vengo
Seance
Traffic
Yi Yi
Happy Times
Ju-On: The Curse
Audition
Unbreakable
Code Unknown
Werckmeister Harmonies

Bob,

Always nice to the Asian flair you bring to the proceedings.

Audition is some tough, tough stuff. I don't know that I could put it on a list other than one titled "Movies I have Survived"

Versus is good stuff. And Ju-On still haunts my waking life.

I have wanted to pick up Uzumaki several times and have not. I assume it's worth it since it made your list.

And damn, I forgot that Sexy Beast was made in 2000. It would have made the list for sure.

So glad to see "O Brother" on there. It's one of the few movies that doesn't completely insult the state of Mississippi (okay, maybe it does a little, but a LOT less than "Mississippi Burning").

Coop,

Give me a blog address. Your ID leads me to nothing.

Anyway, O Brother is a great movie. I'm not always a fan of the Coens, but when they hit, they hit hard. And I guess it's a little lighter on Mississippi because it's a comedy, but it's still pretty damn nasty to the state.

Hey Pat, thanks for the shout! It's so appreciated and I can't wait for your post on 'The Royal Tenenbaums'

To all those that have left a top ten for 2000, thank you also and I was wondering if I could have your kind permission to replicate them on the Counting Down The Zeroes archive?

My own personal top ten? Why, that's easy:

1 - In the Mood For Love
2 - Yi Yi
3 - Dancer in the Dark
4 - Werckmeister Harmonies
5 - The House of Mirth
6 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
7 - O Brother, Where Art Thou
8 - Under the Sand
9 - Memento
10 - Requiem for a Dream
