The Oscars are notorious for giving the award to great actors and actresses for the wrong roles. This usually happens when Oscar messed up the first time around. So they end up giving the award for a lesser performance in an attempt to save face.

I don't know. Paul Neuman was pretty damn good as Fast Eddie in Color Of Money. But everything else is spot on. Denzel should have won it for Malcolm X, no question about it. Are you going to do a director's edition as well? Marty for The Departed?
Good call on Newman. The thing about Paul Newman is that he deserves more than one win in his career.
Consider The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict and Slap Shot. He's been dissed.
Not a bad list. I would also add Whoopi Goldberg winning for Ghost instead of Color Purple.
Sometimes, however, the Academy does get it right the first time (as with Anthony Hopkins' win for Silence of the Lambs or Ben Kingsley's win for Gandhi).
Also, am I the only one left who thinks that Denzel actually deserved the Oscar for Training Day?

I actually loved Denzel in Training Day. He created a scary character. That movie was intense.
I just thought he was even better in Malcolm X.
Denzel showed much more range in Malcolm X then he did in Training Day. He played psycho in Training Day and that's about it. And he did it very well.
i think you could even throw Martin Scorcese in this list with The Departed.

Nicole Kidman should have won for Moulin Rouge. But then Halle Berry wouldn't have had the opportunity to be hysterical while congratulating herself for being historical.
