Top 5 Tuesdays (T5T) Wonders What Scares You
Evil Clown wants to know what keeps you up at night. What gets under your skin and crawls around for awhile. Give me your top 5 scariest movies. Sure there have been other horror lists, but that was then and this is right now. So let me have it. I'm an Evil Clown, I don't scare easy.
Here are mine in no particular order.
1. Halloween It's the Beatles White Album of Horror movies. It's such a cliche, but it's so true.
2. Phantasm What I admire most about this movie is that it doesn't get caught up in trying to explain why evil happens. It just happens.
3. Hell Night Resist all efforts to dismiss this as just another cheesy horror movie. It's not.
4. The Shining This movie is like one big dark blanket that you spend two hours trying to find the edge of so that you can see sunlight again.
5. Westworld There is a very fine line between my love of all that is right with Disney and my fear of all that could go wrong with it.

Open Water scared me good. Did you ever see the website for that movie? It was scary as hell.
Lord of the Flies is also a good one. Chaos is always good for a scare.

I actually did some work with Steve Gevedon who starred and wrote Session 9. It was always a head-scratcher to me that this was so dark because he is a very, very funny man.
Glad you liked the lists. Usually T5T draws a larger crowd, but I think Evil Clown has scared them off.

Okay, so I have to ask.
Did People Under the Stairs really scare you, or do you just like it as a crazy horror movie. I only saw it in the theater, but don't remember it being super scary.
Same goes with Dead Alive. A fun horror movie, but not a really scary one.
But hey, it's not my list. Just curious.

I thought long (and hard!) about this, but try as I might my list comes across as...I don't know...seriously wimpy. I think it's because I'm remembering how I felt seeing these movies at the exact time and place that I first saw them. That impact, that moment, is what has remained.

That's 2 now for The Descent and Open Water. The Descent just made me feel all dirty and cruddy. And I'm not good in tight spaces. I just couldn't buy the premise that all these women would go that far down. But it is creepy.

I have watched Nightmare in a long time and I'm not sure how it holds up. Poltergeist is still good stuff and The Thing is one of my faves. I actually could have just gone straight Carpenter with my top 5.
Burbanked - I relate to your fear of Keira Knightley. The way her mouth always hangs open, I'm so sure she's ready to bite someone's neck or start tearing their flesh off their body. Probably the former, since flesh would be fattening.

I haven't seen NIGHTMARE in a while, either, but the last time I did, I was amazed and impressed at how dark it actually was. Freddy became quite a bit sillier after the first, a quip-spouting showman. But in that first one he's much more menacing, horrifying and the nightmarish way he's lit, shot and the way effects are used is all pretty cringe-inducing.
And besides: young Johnny Depp and a blood volcano.
